05MAR26 – 60th Birfday Shenanigans

Summary
Yesterday got a bit screwed up for me. However, it was worth it. We celebrated John’s 60th birthday.
My day started off great and typical for an office day. However, I had to be home and ready to rock by 3:30 PM. That didn’t give me enough time to get in my one hour of cardio, and the late night caused my morning routine today to disappear. But I can adjust.
We kidnapped John at his condo and made him wear a blindfold and a large sack over his head. We drove for about an hour until we arrived at a ‘speakeasy’ called Flappers.
Great website — but not what was expected. It was the first speakeasy I’ve seen that had signage outside stating ‘Walk-ins Welcome.’ Good thing we had a reservation (that cost $30).
The place was tiny, dingy, messy, and reminiscent of a college frat house trying to run a French-influenced bar out of their garage. Although the service was slow, the cocktails were excellent and the appetizers were decent: arancini, meatballs and waffle fries.
We then reapplied the blindfold and drove to Koreatown and hit a huge Korean BBQ place called MS K-BBQ. There was a giant bear out front dressed in prison stripes set up for photos. In addition to serving intestine and rectum they also sold Korean skincare and knickknacks.
We overate, gifted John a unicorn filled with cigars, then headed downtown for the final stop. We met up with John’s regulars from Wacky Wednesday including Curtis and Sean.
They have their quirks but overall are good people. Later we ended up at Huge Junction Bar and had the entire place to ourselves and reminisced about John when he was younger.
We watched two trans performers put on a drag show. One had fully transitioned with very natural-looking breasts, while the other still had male parts but moved like a gorgeous woman.
I asked Sean why gay men like watching women strip and dance. He said it’s confusing for gay men and doubly confusing for straights. Line of the night.
We sang Happy Birthday to John and David and I left. John waved goodbye with one eye looking in a different direction. Our job here was done.

Get the first draft out and on paper as fast as you can, then refine and mould it.

There are places, moments and people that remind me of different times in my life. Embrace those memories with acceptance and joy because they are the fabric that got me to right here.
