SIT #301-2026 Feb 21 – Listen Here & Check In

It’s a early Saturday morning and the birds are chirping. Today the DC was about active listening and the respect that is given when you are present and aware and involved in the listening of others. It shares a feeling of involvement and interest to the active communicator. This practice strengthens your skills off the mat. It allows you to sit in the moment and be aware of your surroundings with the intention of listening and accepting them and being with them in the here and now. That skillset can transfer off the mat and in to real life where you will become more aware of moments where active listening can occur and share that respect for others. The DT today was all about the check in. I like these practices. It’s basically takes the time to ask ourselves where is here right now? What are we feelings, what is the state of mind, what urges do we have, that thoughts are we drawn to, what do we hear, what do we physically feel. All those things and when you become aware of the answers you just accept that they are here and move on. This practice grounds you in the moment and takes your awareness to new levels with very little effort. Today the DJ was all about the differences between success and fame. As a society we claim the two are synonymous. However, you can still be wildly successful without anybody knowing about it. There was a “Pay to play” band named the Wrecking Crew. They would get hired to play on album recordings in the 60’s and 70’s. Nobody really knew who they were because they were always in the background. However, they played on hundreds of top 40 hits that still get listened to today. California Dreaming, I got you Babe, even the Beach Boys used them. They are basically the most successful band of all time that nobody knew about. This practice shines a light on your own successes and gives them the strength and attention they deserve. I also did a 5 minute calming breath meditation with Chibs Okereke. I might have been drawn to his British accent, but his voice is soothing and calming for me. I used the insight app to find him and in 5 minutes I was centered again. This was a good Saturday Morning.
