SIT #305-2026 Feb 25 – Aversion, Protection, Pain

Office day number two for the week – the routine was a little easier today than it was yesterday.  The DC today was about Aversion and our human habit of avoiding suffering and pain.  This practice teaches us that aversion is the source of the pain and not the pain itself.  When facing stress, pain, suffering head on without aversion then you have the ability to get past it and move on.  When avoiding such things they don’t actually get better or go away.  They are still there in the background getting worse as they are left untreated.  This practice helps you get a handle on your aversions and face things from a safe non-reactionary position.  The DT today was about protection.  First aversion and now protection – good pack to pack practices.  Protection of one self and the awareness that you can feel in practice builds your equanimity skills.  This practice helps you protect that awareness of the here and now and creates a safe place to flow from while on the mat and off.  The DJ today was all about the potential in pain.  This practice helps you seek the opportunities that pain can bring you in a time where really all you can think about is pain itself.  The practice helps you look at pain, accept it and then find the lesson in what it is offering you.  Maybe you learn that you need to do something different to avoid it in the future; maybe you learn that this pain is worth whatever gain it might result in.  There is a opportunity in all chaos.  I liked practicing today.
