SIT #310-2026 Mar 02 – Shoshin Begins with Gorillas in Tail Spins

Monday funday. Back to the grind – had a best sleep I’ve had all week at 93% quality. Today the DC was about repetition and the benefits of it. I subscribe to the lifestyle of daily consistency, no matter how small, brings on glorious results. This practice ties in to that. It talks about how repetition of a good thing no matter how mondain increases your growth. This practice also includes the Japanese work Shoshin. A word that is commonly used in practice and has been used in sits #52-2024 July 24 and #115-2025 Apr 23. It’s the word for a “Beginners Mind”. The idea that you approach everything with a beginners mind set. Open to the possibilities and curiosity that a beginner might have. When applying this approach to repetitive tasks you take the mondain out of it and accept it as new each time. It makes the repetition more enjoyable and more impactful. The DT today was about the being in a tail spin and getting out of it. This practice looks at the reactionary actions we all feel as humans and steps away from them in order to reduce the reaction and increase the positive reaction. Although a reactionary action may be the right one, taking the time to see it before doing it lets you have that choice. Looking at it first also gives you the ability to chose and reduces the impact on your stress levels, which is the point of practice. The DJ today was about finding your Gorillas. The meaning of the practice was to identify your objectives and track them like a gorilla in the wild. Taking little clues left behind until you find all the clues and discover what you are looking for. Your goals are important, just like that Gorilla is. However, the tracking part, the clue finding, the process of getting to the Gorilla is really the most important part of finding the Gorilla. The Gorilla will always be there in the jungle. The process of finding it will not unless you chose to do so.
